Leadership Training Outing With Troop 1412

This past weekend, we had it all - warm, pouring rain, drizzle, big wind, cold, snow - in the weather department that is!

On Friday evening we met Troop 1412 at D-Bar-A Scout Ranch. The pouring rain and periodic drizzle put a bit of a damper ;-) on setting up camp - but all went well - the kitchen area and all the camping area were setup in record time.

The purpose of this weekend was Leadership Training. Troop 1999 and Troop 1412 invited a very talented Eagle Scout to direct the training of Scouts from both Troops. This campout followed a joint Troop meeting at which the Scouts were presented with a "Model Troop Meeting" presentation.

The sessions this weekend included:

The Scouts also had the opportunity to shoot at the Rifle Range and watch a movie at the end of the day. The spent time working (learning) and playing.

The adult leadership of both Troops had a very favorable response to

So, until next time, we will encourage our Scouts to use the skills they learned on Saturday to make their Troop a better run, more effective program.

Training Meeting

Last Night, we had the pleasure of a visit from the members of Troop 1412. Both Troop leaders joined in an effort to train all of our Scouts in a joint meeting. We will also be camping with them on an outing next month.

The demonstration last night was "Model Troop Meeting". The intent was to explain all of the parts of a successful Troop meeting. Our hope is that the Scouts of both Troops will take home some new ideas and begin to make each and every one of their meetings a success.

We had an unexpected visitor last evening. A young Scout named Tyler and his family took time out of their vacation schedule to visit our Troop. They came from Florida and were a bit surprised with the snow that fell.

I encouraged all of the Scouts to take the time and plan their meetings to ensure a successful outcome.

Bring a Friend

We had a great time at the "Bring A Friend" campout. The weather was just perfect! I'm not sure everyone was prepared for the dip in temperature on Friday night, but all survived to tell their story.

Saturday morning, breakfast was a new experience for seven Scouts and two of their "friends". This outing was the first outdoor experience for a couple of them. Setting up tents they had only slept in before and cooking and cleaning, out of doors, was a new challenge.

We had the pleasure of two other Troops visiting us for our campfire on Saturday night. There were stories, songs, skits and all the normal fun around the campfire. Several of our newest Scouts really hammed it up. They made up several skits on the spot. It was great fun.

It just so happened to be the local Astronomical Society's monthly meeting at the observatory. Many of our Scouts and a couple of adults visited the observatory after the campfire. The night was perfect; clear skies, reasonable temperature for the time of year.

One of the highlights for the boys was the nearby creek. They spent hours catching frogs and snakes and getting dirty. Several of the boys got their shoes soaking wet - their only pair of shoes. Of course they didn't seem to care - they were having fun.

One of ours had the experience for the first time ever of flying a kite. For about an hour, Bernie happily held on to the line and kept the kite flapping in the breeze. Bernie, in full uniform spent the time at our Troop gateway entertaining the Scouts and Scouters with the skillful maneuvering of the kite.

There were a few glitches, but the campout went very well. I'm looking forward to the next outing in May.

Klondike Outing - A Success

It was cold, there was snow and fun was had by all. Each Pack received a commorative gold pan as a keepsake from the event.

Thank you to Pack 1434 and Pack 1914 Webelos for being our guests. It was a pleasure to spend time with you. You have an open invitation to attend our outings. Just let us know. We will always have room for you.

The food was great and plentyful. thanks to Mr. Rempe and Mr. Griebe for managing the kitchen.

Thanks to all! The Ranger commended us on how clean the cabin was when we checked out. Good Job everyone!

Just a reminder that the next campout will be in April. It will be a "Bring A Friend" campout. Contact your friends and extend an invitation. This would be a great opportunity for all Scouts who have not yet achieved First Class rank, to satisfy the recruiting requirement. Let's plan a great event for all of our guests.
